The Detroit Red Wings may soon enter the bidding for the services of Drummondville Voltigeurs goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier.
Pelletier, a 20-year-old star sought by a number of Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams, including the Halifax Mooseheads, has been invited to the Red Wings' summer development camp at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, starting Thursday.
The NHL free agent will also attend the Red Wings' annual prospects tournament and training camp in Traverse City, Mich., in August.
Pelletier, a second-round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2005, was one of the top goalies in the Q last season, posting a 2.97 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage in 51 starts.
"What he wants to do is sign with (Detroit) and play in the American Hockey League," Voltigeurs general manager Dominic Ricard said.
"If he's coming back to the Q, we'll decide what to do with him, but presently, we're sure he's going to play pro."
