Where the Winged Wheel came from
In 1932, James Norris (the Norris trophy/Norris Division) bought the Detroit Falcons he renamed them the Red Wings and gave them the logo of the Winged Wheel.
The logo originally appeared on the Montreal Hockey Club's jerseys. They were known as one of the early dominant teams in early hockey, and their nickname was the "Winged Wheelers".
