(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars are picking a good time to play well when they are supposed to, and against who they need to. And having made a big pickup at the trade deadline, they may only get better.
Coming into play on Friday, the Stars are 8-1-1 over their last 10 games against teams currently in the playoffs. That includes a perfect 5-0-0 mark against division rivals San Jose and Anaheim.
The Stars have bested San Jose three times in a row and have also posted a pair of victories over the Ducks in that span. So, it's no surprise that the Stars have moved past the Sharks for second place in the Pacific Division by two points, and with 80 points on the season, Dallas is just five behind Anaheim for first in the standings.
On top of its strong play against the Pacific Division, Dallas is 8-1-1 in its past 10 home games as well. The Stars are outscoring their opponents 34-21 over that stretch and are converting on the power play at a 26.5 percent clip.
Jere Lehtinen has been espcially strong at home as of late, posting seven goals in his last 10 home tilts, and the forward has a team-high 22 tallies on the season.
