(Sports Network) - While most people have already cast aside their Christmas gifts at this point as old junk, the Stars are still enjoying their holiday gift.
That gift, apparently, was better special teams play.
Since December 25, Dallas has gone 21-for-88 on the power play for a 23.9 percent success rate. Prior to the holiday, the Stars ranked 20th in the league on the man advantage at 15.8 percent (33-of-209). The recent success has moved the club to 11th overall in the league, now at 18.2 percent.
Dallas is also playing well shorthanded. Heading into play on Sunday, Dallas has killed off 23 of its past 24 penalty kill opportunities and since January 15, has successfully killed off 40-of-45 (88.9 percent) man advantages.
Right wing Jere Lehtinen has been espcially successful on special teams since Christmas. He has scored a league-high eight times on the power play since December 25 and leads the team overall with 16 goals on the season.
The 33-year-old, who is just two games shy of 700 in his career, also has 10 assists on the season for 26 points.
