he at least deserves a nomination. i don't know if he deserves it though since i don't follow nhl as close as i wish i could.

I agree, he has been shut out the last few years, and deserved one this year especially since he led the Stars in scoring.

yeah, but it tends to go to those who can score some also.

He deserved a nomination, but the fact that he was only a +5 probably prevented him from receiving recognition. Also the fact that the Stars have two other excellent defensive forwards (Barnes and Halpern) took some of the attention away from Lehtinen.

I've never been a fan of the "You don't watch this team every game, therefore you don't know the worth of our players" argument. But when it comes to evaluating the merits of a defensive forward, I really do think that you need to see a hell of a lot of a player to really understand their contributions. For that reason, it's hard for me to have an opinion on this one.

Sure, I know that Lehtinen is worthy of being considered for this award. But I don't see enough of the Stars, Ducks, and Canes to really weigh the comparative Selke merits of Lehtinen vs. Pahlson vs. Brind'Amour vs. Pandolfo. Fisher and Madden would have been good nominees too, IMO, and if Peca played a full season he'd probably warrant some consideration as well. Anyway, bottom line is that without seeing a ton of all of the top defensive forwards in the game, it's impossible to say that any of those guys that I mentioned is worthier than another.

Although his play wasnt exactly stellar this year, I still give him a vote for one of the top defensive forwards in the league. He has tons of experience quarterbacking his two fellow offensemen and he can set them up and score, as well.

i live in texas and watch all the stars games and i agree that the reason that he didnt seem as stellar this year was due to the fact barnes and halpern were here. although, he most definately deserved at least a nomination for last years selke
