Stars put Niinimaa on IR

The Dallas Stars placed defenceman Janne Niinimaa on injured reserve Wednesday with an ankle injury.

The team expects Niinimaa to return after Thursday's game against Colorado. He missed Dallas' last game, a 4-1 win over Phoenix, and Wednesday's meeting with St. Louis.

The Stars acquired Niinimaa from the New York Islanders on Jan. 10. In 46 games this season, he has a goal and 10 assists.
