Default Stars welcome Canucks to Big D

(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars try to keep their early momentum going tonight when they host the Vancouver Canucks at AmericanAirlines Center.

Dallas has won seven of its first eight games this season, including Saturday's 4-0 win in Phoenix. Goaltender Mike Smith made his NHL debut worthwhile, stopping all 22 shots he faced in the rout.

Mike Ribeiro, Mike Modano, Philippe Boucher and Darryl Sydor each scored for the Stars, who matched the 1996-97 club for the best start after eight games in franchise history (7-1-0).

Dallas has won two straight games after suffering its first loss of the campaign, 2-0 in San Jose last Tuesday.

Smith spelled regular starter Marty Turco, who is 6-1-0 with a 1.98 goals- against average and .930 save percentage in seven starts. Turco has stopped 186 of the 200 shots he has faced.

Dallas will host Detroit on Friday.
