DALLAS (CP) - Shayne Corson has come out of retirement and agreed to terms with the Dallas Stars.
The 37-year-old forward was in Dallas for a physical Tuesday but both sides have agreed to a one-year deal pro-rated to the rest of the season. Financial terms were not disclosed. "It's a contract that's appropriately structured with a pro-rated salary and significant bonuses for games played, minutes played in those games, and games won," Corson's agent Richard Curran said from Philadelphia.
Corson chose the Stars over "a few other" teams, Curran said.
"With all due respect to the other teams who showed interest, this represents the best chance to contend for a Stanley Cup which is what every veteran player would want," Curran said.
Corson has not played since he walked out on the Toronto Maple Leafs during the first round of the playoffs last spring. The three-time all-star had been a healthy scratch for several games.
"I think he agonized over the decision over whether to play again," Curran said.
The native of Barrie, Ont., began his career with the Montreal Canadiens in 1986-87. He went on to play for Edmonton, St. Louis and Toronto.
In 1,139 regular season games, he has 268 goals, 415 assists and 2,328 penalty minutes.

this is a load off of every wings fan's chest. i think corsons physical asspect to the game would benifit any team but i think he comes with too many strings attached. he belongs on a team like florida or buffalo where there arent alot of stars and he can get as much ice time as he wants, that way if the team is preforming badly he cant complain that he hasnt gotten his chance to help the team...
