Default Hicks: better start winning or you're all gone

Got the following from TSN's website,
Quote:
Hicks gives Stars one month ultimatum

TSN.ca Staff

1/8/2004

Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks has given his team 30 days to show they have what it takes to make a strong run for the playoffs. Otherwise, he says, there will be changes.

"I think we'll know if we have a chance to win the Pacific and make a strong push," Hicks tells the Dallas Morning News.

"We're either going to show we'll contend or not. If we're not, there will be reasons why and we'll address them at that time."

Dallas, who sit fourth in the Pacific Divison and 10th in the Western Conference, will face teams with a winning record in 12 of the next 14 games heading into the All-Star break. All but three of those teams are ranked sixth or better in the conference.

Hicks, whose team boasts the third-highest payroll in the NHL, is optimisitc the Stars can contend and he's confident both general manager Doug Armstrong and head coach Dave Tippett can turn things around.

"Teams like San Jose are younger and playing harder and winning. We've got to show that our veterans can play that way and win games."
Hehehe. Yaa, Hicks, you take over. We all know what a genius you are, bidding against yourself to sign A-Rod to your crappy Texas Rangers for $250 million. Ok, Mr. Smart Guy, what are you going to do? Maybe you could get Hatcher back from the Red Wings. Even hurt he would improve a lousy defense. And what about Modano? You could take away his teeth whitener until he starts scoring.

The only answer for Hicks is to make A-Rod earn his huge salary and play left wing for the Stars during the MLB off season.

Alex Rodriguez could prove to be an asset on the Dallas Stars defence. He is one of the best fielding shortstops in baseball. The stats don't lie:

He would fit nicely in with Zubov.

Here's Dallas' new defence with Rodriquez in it.

Rodriguez-Zubov
Matvichuk-Boucher
Klemm-Numminem

That ain't bad!!!

Hmm, Modano maybe available?

Maybe he'd like to be reunited with Brett Hull...

i could see the stars asking for datsyuk instead of zetterburg. unless its just a salary dump.

Don't know how you figure they could ask for a guy who is leading the league in points and still has 10+ years left in him for a guy who is almost 34 and performing poorly.

Depending on where his contract sits, Modano might even be a rental player, and therefore be had relatively cheap.

To answer your question on Zetterberg, NO, I wouldn't give him up, I think he as the potential to be even better than Datsyuk, who I might give up if Modano was closer to 30 and signed long term, but trading 1 first line center for another doesn't fill the hole.

I would however give up Williams and picks/porspects to get Modano as a rental, not that that's likely.

What is Modano's contract situation, does anybody know?

obviously the modano/datsyuk trade i mentioned wouldnt be one for one. neither would the zetterberg for modano. im sure dallas would have to take a goalie from the wings and the stars would have to throw in some pick and prospects themselves. there really arent 1 for 1 deals anymore unless we're talking 4th liners or prospects.

Maybe they could move Klemm?

I know he was recently acquired, but these are his numbers with the Stars

-2 points in 24 games, minus 5.

He had a better plus minus with the awful Hawks!

It would be a good move by Vancouver to try and snag him, could be had for a pick. Brings playoff experience(2 cups), played for Marc Crawford before, native of BC, and Burke tried to land him before he signed with the Hawks. He would be a perfect fit on the Canucks, stay at home defenseman they need badly.

Tugger..has he cleared waivers yet? Poor dude..he was once so good a couple of years back, and now is fizzling away.
