i always thought he should have been captain, even when he was young for the north stars. it's about time, hatcher has no leadership whatsoever. good for modano.
You think Derian Hatcher wasn't a leader in Dallas? I beg to differ.
As the Stars neared the end of their '98-'99 regular season, a bitter rivalry formed between the Coyotes and Dallas. In a game in late March, Phoenix star Jeremy Roenick cheaply hit Dallas star Mike Modano on open ice away from the puck, injuring the Star's best player. At the next meeting between the two teams in April, Derian Hatcher broke Roenick's jaw as revenge. Hatcher served his suspension, but upon his return his Dallas Stars went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Hatcher stuck up for his teammates and led by example. His aggression was an asset to his team and his fellow Stars respected his experience and grit. He was a great captain, but Modano will be too.

I think Hatcher was a good captain, although I don't like him as a player. Modano will be a great captain and he will always lead the Stars. Hey StarsFan4Life2. guess you don't like the Oilers....

No, I don't. Nothing personal.
By the way, in each of the Oilers' last five playoff appearances ('98, '99, '00, '01, '03), the Dallas Stars eliminated them in six games or less. k:

lets see after his first year as captian.... a whole 44 points in 76 games, compared to last year (with out the C) 85 points in 79 games!
and in playoff time where he usually shines, he had not bad 3 points in 5 games, but last year he had 15, in 12 games, so maybe Modano cant handle being captain of the team. heck Brenden Morrow had more Points then Modano for god sakes!
Well if madano isnt brining the points, maybe he is doing some good in the locker room or somethin. I guess stars just wanted to have a new face as captian.

No its that they couldn't afford to keep Hatcher, thats why they named Modano captain.

Very good point! I never liked hatcher as captain as captain, modano always seemed more fitting!
