The Stars hoped to land an impact scorer via free agency, but since that didn't happen, the team will focus on its trade options, reports the Dallas Morning News.
According to the paper, the Stars planned to spend $4 million to sign a scoring forward and will now use those funds in an attempt to acquire one via trade.
"Are we likely to make a trade? Yes, but not in the next week," Stars President Jim Lites told the Morning News. "Are we preparing to do something? Absolutely. But we're not going to do anything stupid."
The Stars pursued the likes of Paul Kariya, Jason Blake and Slava Kozlov earlier this month, but failed to sign any.
