(Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks will get another crack at ending their Western Conference quarterfinal series tonight, when they visit the Dallas Stars for Game 6 at American Airlines Center.
The third-seeded Canucks held a 3-1 lead in this best-of-seven set and had a chance to advance to the conference semifinals with a home game on Thursday. However, the Stars foiled those plans with a dramatic overtime triumph in Game 5.
Brenden Morrow's power-play tally 6:22 into the extra session lifted Dallas to the 1-0 win at General Motors place.
Just 2-for-28 on the man-advantage coming into the game, the Stars got a huge chance after the Canucks were whistled for having too many men on the ice at 5:18 of OT. Dallas went to work, and Sergei Zubov dug the puck off the boards and dished it back to Morrow in the high slot. The left winger wristed the puck on net, and Roberto Luongo made the initial save before the puck rolled up and over top of his glove and into the back of the net.
Marty Turco made 21 saves for Dallas, which cut the series' deficit to three games to two, but will once again need a victory to stave off elimination.
The Stars played Thursday's tilt without forward Jussi Jokinen, who suffered an upper body strain in Game 4. Jokinen, who notched 48 points while playing in all 82 regular-season games for Dallas this year, is questionable for this evening's contest.
