The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed unrestricted free agent center Samuel Pahlsson to a three-year contract worth $2.65 million per season.

Pahlsson split last season between Anaheim and Chicago. His new contract includes a limited no-trade clause.

The Blue Jackets have also signed unrestricted free agent goalie Mathieu Garon to a two-year, $2.4 million contract.

Pahlsson may add depth to the bluejackets' centers and garon does give them a veteran influence to help Mason along. But, I would have thought they could get little more help for about 5 million. But time will tell.

Less than 24 hours before they were to go to arbitration, the Columbus Blue Jackets and defenseman Marc Methot have agreed on a two-year contract.

The 24-year-old Methot developed into one of the Jackets’ top defensemen last season while scoring four goals and adding 13 assists with a plus 7 rating in 66 games.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed goaltender Dan LaCosta to a one-year, two-way NHL-American Hockey League contract, General Manager Scott Howson announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed. LaCosta, 23, was a 2-0-0 record with a 1.54 goals-against average, .950 save percentage and one shutout in three games with the Blue Jackets last season. He earned the first win of his NHL career stopping 28-of-30 shots in an overtime win over San Jose on February 7. In his second career NHL start, he stopped all 31 shots he faced against Colorado on February 10 to post the first shutout of his NHL career. In 45 games with the Crunch in 2008-09, he went 19-18-2 with a 2.79 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and two shutouts. Columbus' fourth pick, 93rd overall in the 2004 Entry Draft, he has gone 33-27-6 with a 2.66 GAA, .913 SV% and six shutouts in 79 career AHL games.

LaCosta seems like a pretty strong keeper, and I think could be strong candidate as a #2 for Mason or used as trade bait to strengthen a weaker spot on the team.

Also, the Jackets came to terms with their 2009 first round draft Pick, John Moore.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Derick Brassard to a four-year, $12.8 million contract extension through the 2013-14 season.

Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson announced the signing Friday, lauding Brassard’s passion and talent.

The 22-year-old Brassard had 10 goals and 15 assists in 31 games in 2008-09 before a dislocated shoulder ended his season in December.

Brassard was Columbus’ first pick, and sixth overall, in the 2006 draft. At the time of his injury, he led NHL rookies in points. He was rookie of the month in October.
