Unless I'm wrong, he'll be a UFA come July 1, right? If you can sign him for cheap (and that should be possible given his performance level over the last few years) then keep him.
Other than that, he's just not worth the salary he was being paid. The argument could certainly have been made that it was worth it for the Habs to somewhat overpay a French golatender who could be loved by the Montreal crowds. That is not something that could be said for the Avs, however.
