Arizona Sundogs Deal Gascon to Tulsa in Exchange for Defenseman Jason Lawmaster
The Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League announced Monday that they have traded forward Martin Gascon to the Tulsa Oilers in exchange for defenseman Jason Lawmaster.
Gascon, 27, has appeared in 41 games for the Sundogs this season, registering seven goals and 44 points while collecting up 14 penalty minutes (PIM). The 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward is plus-2 and ranks sixth in the CHL with 37 assists. Twenty-two of his 37 helpers have come on the man-advantage, good enough for second-most in the league.
"It's difficult trade a guy like Martin, especially with the level of offensive production he's had with us this season," said Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro. "He's a talented player and will continue to have success wherever he plays."
Jason Lawmaster, 30, skated in 32 games for the Oilers this season, tallying six goals, 11 assists and 88 PIM. The Westland, Michigan native played with the Mississippi RiverKings in 2007-08, his first season in the CHL, and collected 26 points (6g/20a) 139 PIM in 63 regular season appearances.
"We've been playing short, especially at the defensive position, and the acquisition of Jason addresses that need immediately," added Pietroniro. "We expect him to have an immediate impact with our Club."
Lawmaster spent parts of four seasons in the ECHL from 1999-2003 and was a member of the Kelly Cup Champion Peoria Rivermen during the 1999-2000 season, registering 10 goals, 20 assists and 264 PIM in 56 regular season appearances. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman added six points (3g/3a) and 60 PIM in 18 playoff contests en route to the ECHL title.
The 10-year pro has also appeared in 61 American Hockey League (AHL) contests, recording 18 points (6g/12a) and 137 PIM.
The Sundogs (17-21-3), in the midst of a three-week homestand, begin a three-game set against the Rocky Mountain Rage Wednesday night at 7:05pm (Arizona time) at Tim's Toyota Center.
