Calgary was called the best hockey city by the Sporting News for a reason, and here's another one.
The Hitmen are the biggest draw in North American hockey, regardless of league. With an average of 9,080 per game, the Hitmen lead the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (9,025) and the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL (7,629).
The highest professional attendance is Machester of the AHL (8,876)
I hear that not only are the Hitmen benefitting from the NHL lockout but so are the Vancouver Giants who have seen their crowds gone up playing in the old Pacific Coliseum.

Oh, some American publication sees women (who just jumped on the Flames' bandwagon) flashing their breasts on 'The Red Mile' and they get called the best hockey city. Yeah, that's real impressive. The Sporting News knows nothing about hockey. Get over it.
Most CHL cities, including Kitchener, would beat that number too, only if their arena was larger. The Rangers virtually sell out every game, and most of the time people are still paying just to be in the standing room section. If The Aud's capacity was over 10 000 too, they'd still sell out.

J.R. you should know that that is not true. Only a few teams actually have the potential to sell-out every game, and those teams in the OHL are: Kitchener, London, and Ottawa. Source: http://www.mib.org/~lennier/hockey/leagueatt.cgi
And All three of those arena's that are played in are in the top 5 for total capacity. The remainder are generally all under 5,000 seats capacity.
If you're interested in more reading about OHL rinks J.R. check out the OHL Arena Guide Its quite the interesting site, and very informative.

We could, and would hold more in the Civic Center if not for the way our roof slopes. Despite this, we still have one of the largest rinks in the CHL as far as seating capacity goes.
As for that Sporting News article, Ottawa is just as much a hockey town as Calgary is as far as I'm concerned.

You mean to say that Windsor can't find enough of their crazy fans to sell out every game.
I've vistited OHL Arena Guide GLG02. I found it very interesting as well. I found out that Newmarket (not too far from me) had a OHL team that tanked after about two years. I also found out that the Guelph Storm were once the Toronto Marlies.
Nicest Arena I saw on site: John Labatt Centre, Guelph's Arena
Ugliest Arena I saw on site: Kingston, Peterborough, Ottawa (hard to believe an NHL team played there; to point out it would be a nice arena if it didn't have the sloped roof)

The Giants attendance is up just under 70% from last year, at about 7700 per game. This is partly because of the lockout, but the Giants also offered first chance to get ticket packages to next year's WJHC's to season ticket holders, which really spiked attendance in Lotus Land.
The Hitmen were actually benifitting from the renewed passion for hockey towards the end of last season as well. While the Hitmen have safely led the WHL in attendance for at least the previous two seasons, their final eight home games last year averaged 9607, and had five 10,000+ crowds.
Also, while I agree London would probably top that average with a larger building, I wonder if they would have done so had the Knights been as mediocre as the Hitmen were for the first half of the season. Not to mention the bonus of being Mem Cup hosts...

With a new arena, yeah maybe. But not every game as the team is not that good enough to sell out often.
