Default Injured Khabibulin could miss Olympics

Quote:
The Blackhawks will be without goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin for at least a month.

The Blackhawks have confirmed media reports on Sunday that Khabibulin injured his left knee during a 4-1 loss to Minnesota on Friday night. Khabibulin had an MRI on Saturday and, while official results have not been released, the Chicago Tribune reported that the clubs suspects a sprained medial collateral ligament.

The Blackhawks did say that Khabibulin will be out for at least 4-6 weeks, which means it's very unlikely he will be able to play for Russia at the Olympics in Torino, Italy, in February.

Adam Munro, recently called up from the AHL, will assume the number one job in Chicago.

Exactly when Khabibulin was injured is unclear, but he did continue to play through the pain on Friday. He was reluctant to leave the game, since he was just returning from a 10-game lay-off due to a groin injury.

The Hawks have called up Corey Crawford to serve as Munro's back-up, but general manager Dale Tallon told the Tribune he would explore the waiver wire for a more experienced backup. The Hawks lost Craig Anderson to the Boston Bruins through a waiver claim on Wednesday.

The Blackhawks ARE stupid. Worst franchise in professional sports.

after today i couldnt agree more. Tyler Arnason there top Points leader, top Assist man and second or third in goals was a healthy scratch and last game the coach pulled him from the top line. Well who does that leave there top line with Bell? i dont think he can score 4 goals a game.. :(

Thats too bad about Nikolai, that guy can sure be a wall in front of the net when he chooses. So I heard that Evegeni Nabokov will take his place?? Is this so? Wasn't Nabokov born and raised in Kazahkhstan? Well if Nabokov is going to be the replacement, Russia is still in pretty good shape.

Get well soon Nikolai!
