The National Hockey League suspended Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Jaroslav Spacek for two games without pay Tuesday for clipping Calgary Flames centre Byron Ritchie.
The incident took place at 2:18 of the third period during Calgary's 3-2 win Monday.
As Ritchie sped into the Chicago zone with the puck, Spacek stepped on the ice from the players bench and dove across and cut the legs out from under him.
Ritchie tumbled to the ice and had to be helped off the ice favouring a knee while Spacek received a minor penalty.
Spacek, who is eligible to return Jan. 8 against Nashville, will forfeit $22,959.18 US in salary, with the money going to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
