The Chicago Blackhawks announced today the winger Eric Daze will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair a herniated disc in his back.



Daze appeared in three games for the Blackhawks this season before experiencing back pain that has sidelined him since. He is expected to be out of the lineup for approximately 10 weeks.



"Daze had been working three hours a day on back strengthening exercises and his back is actually very strong," said Blackhawks Head Trainer Mike Gapski. "This surgery is not related to any of his previous surgeries because it is in a totally different area. We are optimistic that he will have a full recovery because he's been working so hard and his back is extremely strong."



Last year, he had 22 goals and 44 points in 54 games and was expected to be Chicago's top threat again this season. He is pointless in three games.





Daze has 222 career goals in 584 NHL games - all with Chicago.

What else could go wrong for the Hawks? Nothing humanly possible...

really hurts to have your #1 goalie and one of your best forwards out, and the team is too young to pick up the slack. Maybe they'll make the playoffs...in 5 years

OMG....Hawks have no chance of winning the cup now. I guess they realized that and figured out that now would be the best time. At least everything has gone wrong all at once instead of at different times when they didn't need it. Now next year hopefully all their players will be health.

They didn't really have a chance before either.

Why didn't Daisy have this surgery months ago? What is it with backs and hips on the Hawks anyway?

Another frustrating year in Chicago.
