CHICAGO (Ticker) - Chicago Blackhawks center Alex Zhamnov will undergo back surgery Thursday and will be sidelined at least six weeks, the team announced Tuesday.
The procedure will correct a disk problem and the former All-Star will not be re-evaluated for at least six weeks.
Zhamnov, 33, led all Blackhawks in ice time in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Los Angeles, logging 22 minutes, 44 seconds. He has failed to register a point in three games this season as Chicago has combined for just three goals.
The Blackhawks' captain, Zhamnov was second on the team in scoring last season with 15 goals and 43 assists in 74 games.
He has spent his last seven seasons with Chicago, which acquired him from the Phoenix Coyotes in the August 1996 trade involving Jeremy Roenick.

his this skilled of a player out is going to hurt this team if they like it or not. Zhamnov is one of their best players. You think Chicago will be able to pull on and do better or will they suffer lose after lose.
