Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon plans to be active in the free-agent market when the NHL signing period begins Sunday, reports the Chicago Daily Herald.
The Hawks are expected to pursue some of the top-end free-agents, such as Scott Gomez, Ryan Smyth, Sheldon Souray or Chris Drury, but they will be going after second-tier players.
According to the paper, Tallon is going to attempt to sign a center with some offensive punch, a puck-moving defenseman and perhaps another winger.
Tallon tried to re-sign Michal Handzus, and sources told TFP that the Hawks were making some ground, however it now appears as if the centerman will sign elsewhere this summer.
