Bruins Beat Chicago 2-1 in Shootout
Yes! Boston is back on top of the Northeast Division after dispatching the Blackhawks 2-1 in a shootout win last night.
P.J. Axelsson scored in the shootout to lift the Bruins to a 2-1 win. Rookie Blake Wheeler also scored in the shootout. The Bruins are now 7-1-0 in their last eight games and are enjoying a four game winning streak. The win ended Chicago's winning streak at four.
There was great goaltending on both sides as Tim Thomas pretty much slammed the door on the Hawks who had scored 21 goals in the previous 4 games. Chicago's Nikolai Khabibulin was also good, denying the Bruins in the 2nd and 3rd periods and overtime. Khabibulin faced 40 shots while Thomas had 32 total shots against. And Thomas had to stop Chicago sniper Patrick Sharp on a penalty shot in OT.
Marco Sturm and Jonathan Toews traded power play goals during regulation. Patrick Kane scored for Chicago to prolong the shootout after Wheeler's goal and then Axelsson put the game away with his first goal of the year.
The Montreal Canadiens will be next on the agenda Thursday, November 13th for the Bruins. Isn't it time to finally put the Habs away? They will be playing for the lead in the Northeast and the Sabres are idle til Friday.
