Murray To Be Bought Out.
Thursday, 24 July 2008 06:27
The Boston Bruins placed veteran forward Glen Murray on waivers yesterday as a prelude to buying out his contract. Read on for more details.
BOSTON GLOBE/BOSTON HERALD: both reported the Bruins placed veteran forward Glen Murray on unconditional waivers yesterday, which is the first step in buying out the remainder of his contract, currently at one year and $4.15 million. Should Murray clear waivers today the Bruins will have 48 hours to complete Murray's buyout, which should save the Bruins approximately $2.7 million, paring their payroll down to just over $55 million. GM Peter Chiarelli claims this move is not linked to the club's re-signing of Dennis Wideman, whose new contract pushed the Bruins payroll over the salary cap.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Chiarelli may claim otherwise but this move is tied to Wideman's new contract, since re-signing him prior to his arbitration hearing gives the Bruins a limited window for a "second look" buyout option to get them under the cap. It's unfortunate for Murray, but as I've been saying for the past two years, his age, declining production, injury history and salary made him impossible to move. Perhaps he'll be able to land with another team via the UFA market.

Bruins Buy Out Glen Murray
Jul 26, 2008, 10:05 AM EDT
Boston, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has bought out the final year of right-winger Glen Murray’s contract. Chiarelli will speak with the media via conference call today, Saturday, July 26 at 3:00 p.m. ET.
In his 16-season NHL career, Murray played 1,009 regular season games while dressing for three clubs (two stints with Boston, the Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins). Overall, he scored 337 goals, added 314 assists and earned a career +/- of 14.
Following the buyout, Murray becomes an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any other NHL team.

Hmmm, this guy might be a sleeper pick up for some team. I mean his salary might be a little high at 4 mil sure, but this guy managed 17 goals last year while fighting injuries. Matter of fact he might look great in the Orca at 1.5 to 2 mil.

the only problem with Glen is over the last few seasons all he has been doing is fighting injuries, so yeah if you can get for cheap do it but I don't think he'd be a huge difference maker on any team, just for the simple fact he will only be playing 60-70 games a season

And that's my point really, if he were healthy, I think he's a 60 point guy when you consider he bagged 30 while struggling. I just think there's more to this guy then people might first consider. That's all....
