Everyone loves a fight...right?!

My first blog post...why not start with the most controversial subject: FIGHTING in the NHL!

I talk to countless people about this subject and the opinions vary about as much as my taste in women. They should ban it completely, change the rules around fighting, or just leave it alone echo through my mind like blonds, brunettes, and redheads on a Saturday night. But like I told my buddy after the 3rd shot of tequila...ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!

Hockey is a physical sport. Aggression builds. Grown men with ridiculous competitive streaks are being paid a lot of money to do anything they can to win. Imagine taking away one of the only outlets for that aggression. But football doesn't have fighting you say and it's the same thing. The same thing minus the fact that on every single down in football you can smash a guy as hard as you want. Hockey just doesn't have the same opportunities.

Do what you want in the minors. I fully agree with the new rules of keeping your helmet on at all times etc. But we are talking about the Big Show here, and these boys know how to handle themselves and what it takes to win.

There has been an increase in hits from behind lately, in cheap shots and other weak displays of character...but, take away fighting in the NHL, and I guarantee those plays that nobody wants, will only increase.

And anyways, both Gretzky and Cherry agree on this issue. What more needs to be said?!

Until next time...

Fighting in the NHL.....

There is a very important reason why fighting is allowed in hockey, a reason everyone keeps forgetting! There are highly skilled players, on some teams, that can take over a game single handedly. In order to slow down or stop these players, you must play them physically. The only thing protecting these guys from cheap shots and excessive roughness, are what we like to call "The Enforcers". These guys are in charge of protecting skill players, and are sometimes used when physical play is needed, like on penalty kills. If we ban fighting from hockey, we will see an increase in injuries from illegal and late hits, we will see a lot more penalties called, and hockey will be a lot less exciting. We can not ban fighting, it will be the death of hockey!
