As I surf the web I see on Comcast’s page an article about wacky warning stickers on products…apparently, some people arent aware that tractors arent for suicide and irons arent used while wearing the clothes youre ironing.
So anyway, I started a thread last night after the Flyers game…Im sure everyone’s seen it. Penguins are classless (the most overused word there is). Most people supported the idea that the Penguins are classless (as they well should), while others (I wont mention names) came up with (weak) excuses for why the Flyers are still the bad guys…Now regardless of whether or not diving into a goalie demonstrates a lack of *respect, sportsmanship, or humanity*(it does), whats with the arguments about the physicality of hockey?
Aside from Laraque trying to steal the crease (he was called out btw), there was really nothing in the game that bothered me. Jarkko Ruutu had me in stitches when he gave Potulny’s head a rub (for good luck, Im assuming). I didn’t find it to be a *tasteless, inappropriate, or disrespectful* act that was worthy of suspension and a 5 page thread.
So what is it with hockey fans? We hate Bettman for the pussification of the league, yet at the same time, we “Crosby” about regular hits gone wrong, practically calling for a ban on checking.
I understand that there were some unfortunate incidents this year…but the overreaction Ive seen from the fans has been nothing short of “Crosbying” (my new word for whining/crying) aside from the Boulerice incident.
Maybe things have always been this way and Ive never noticed because Im only a forumer for just over a year…maybe this recent “Crosbyfest” is just because of the hockey society rapidly changing views of morality in the game.
If a guy has his head down, you hit him. If hes in a vulnerable position, that’s his fault. But of course, whos fault is it if a man burns himself with an iron? Or fails to avoid death? The victim who failed to protect themselves files a lawsuit if that warning isn’t there, and the company has to pay. Maybe the company shouldn’t put out a product that burns people.
And as funny as it is, most people don’t care if the big company loses money, because people hate companies. Same way they hate the Flyers. Weak comparisons aside, Im left wondering, when is the person who failed to protect themselves made accountable?
