Thrashers need to re-sign Kovalchuk
The Atlanta Thrashers biggest priority in the off-season is to sign Ilya Kovalchuk to a long-term deal.
Kovalchuk is still over a year away from unrestricted free agency, but they will have to deal him at some point next season, if they are not in the playoff race, despite what GM Don Waddell says. Kovalchuk needs to see that there is a good future in Atlanta. The Thrashers have the fourth overall pick in a strong draft so they should pick up a good forward who will eventually help Kovalchuk if he remains.
