The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights opened up their Calder Cup Playoffs with a 4-2 win over the Iowa Stars at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
After falling behind 2-1 with seven minutes left in the second frame, the Knights tallied three unanswered goals against Dan Ellis and the Stars.
Justin Taylor kicked off the scoring for Omaha, while defensemen Chris Lee and Adam Pardy also added marks to give the Knights’ a 1-0 series lead in the West Division semifinals.
Netminder Curtis McElhinney needed just 17 shots to earn his first professional playoff win.
Warren Peters rounded out the scoring with a goal and David Van der Gulik added two assists for Omaha, who has now won six of its last seven meetings against the Stars.
Paul Szczechura and Dan Hacker each scored for Iowa, who will look to even the series in Game 2, set for Saturday.
