I measured 5 inches from the base of the heel and cut. If you find foam and other junk, measure another inch and cut.

I did this last November with my Synergy one piece and works well, better than a 1 piece, IMHO.

You can get a tapered wood blade off the rack, if you're lucky. Other option is modifying a wood blade to fit unless you feel like spending about $100 for a carbon graphite tapered blade.
