Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews will return to Chicago to undergo an MRI on his left knee.
The rookie suffered a sprain in the knee during the Hawks' 9-2 blowout loss at Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Chicago's third-overall pick in the 2007 draft has posted 15 goals and 32 points in 36 games.
Toews is no stranger to injury in his first NHL campaign, having already broken his right index finger while blocking a shot earlier in the season.
To fill the roster spot, the club has called up forward Kris Versteeg from Rockford of the American Hockey League.

Bummer and bad news for the Hawks. They have started to generate high interest again in Chicago, with attendence being up. A blow like this is not what they needed. Hopefully it is not something major, and he can recover quickly.
