As for the game itself, it isn't a surprise as this has happened before. They show us why they're not a Cup Contending team one night, and then than they blow out a team the next night and the win 3-4 games in a row, and then all of a sudden we forget about the mediocre defence and the passengers and minor leaguers on offence.
December of 05-06, they lose 8-2 to Ottawa, and then go on a 7-1 run, starting off with a memorable 9-6 win over the New York Islanders... only to miss the playoff afterwards, due to inconsistent play.
January of 06-07, they lose 8-2 to Pittsburgh, and then win 5 in a row. We all knw how the seaso nwent afterwards.
My opinion is not going to sway. This is not a good Hockey club. The Leafs need to improve., and I'm never convinced by the sudden blowouts. There is too much dead weight to be truely effective. I'm wondering how things will be when Bell and Wellwood return. Hopefully overated players like Chad Kilger will finally be let loose - but not likely. The hype this guy receives is unwarranted IMO.
Maybe Antropov can be used for trade bait (yes, it's been said for years, but he's still there just about to start reaching his full potential)
This team needs to change, yet somehow the line-up is almost exactly the same way as last year. Everyone in the line-up is the same except for Jason Blake. JFJ at his finest.
Unfortunately, SportsCenter and SportsNet will jump on TO's high horse and play to the hype just to get people watching.
Yup, the Leafs will do it this year - NOT!... or, at least not with this team they won't.
